How to say thank you in Vietnamese

I'd like to know how Vietnamese people say thank you or just thanks?

There're actually more than one way to say thanks (or thank you) in Vietnamese. However the two most common ones are:

There's no difference between the meaning of these two phrases. There're some arguments on the internet that cảm ơn should be the correct one, however both phrases are listed in Vietnamese Encyclopedia.

Further more, you can adđ pronounce at the end of each phrase such as anh (= someone who is in the same generation with your but older), em (= someone who is in the same generation with your but younger), chú (= someone who is in the same generation with your parents but a bit younger), chú (= someone who is in the same generation with your parents but a bit older).. Thus you often hear Vietnamese people say cảm ơn anh or cảm ơn em or cảm ơn chú...

There is also an old version đa tạ which is more being used in old movies or to add more fun in a informal conversation.
