Hà Ná»I â Viá»t Nam resolutely objects to Chinaâs recent activities in the Hoà ng Sa (Paracel) archipelago and reiterated Viá»t Namâs sovereignty over the islands, the Ministry of Foreign Affairsâ spokeswoman Lê Thá» Thu Hằng said yesterday.
Hằng made the remarks in response to reportersâ questions regarding Chinaâs recent activities in the area, including celebrations marking six years of the so-called âSansha cityâ and installing wave monitoring devices on Phú Lâm Island. Meanwhile, China Central Televisionâs (CCTV) childrenâs channel recently organised a reality TV show for kids on the Hoà ng Sa archipelago. The Sun Yat-sen University of China also conducted a series of scientific surveys on the Hoà ng Sa islands.Â
Hằng said Viá»t Nam had sufficient legal foundations and historical evidence affirming its sovereignty over Hoà ng Sa and TrÆ°á»ng Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes in line with international law.Â
âThe aforementioned actions of China have not only seriously violated Viá»t Namâs sovereignty over the Hoà ng Sa and TrÆ°á»ng Sa archipelagos but also run counter to the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues between the Socialist Republic of Viá»t Nam and the Peopleâs Republic of China; do not conform to the important common perceptions of the two countriesâ senior leaders on controlling sea-related disagreements; as well as disobey the solid development trend of bilateral relations.âÂ
She added that these actions are also âcontrary to the spirit and content of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and do not benefit the negotiations between ASEAN and China on a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC), as well as the maintenance of an environment of peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the East Sea and the region.âÂ
âViá»t Nam resolutely opposes these actions and demands China immediately stop the aforementioned activities; respect Viá»t Namâs sovereignty over the Hoà ng Sa and TrÆ°á»ng Sa archipelagoes; seriously implement the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues between the Socialist Republic of Viá»t Nam and the Peopleâs Republic of China, along with the DOC; not continue actions that complicate the situation; and practically and actively contribute to developing the friendship and comprehensive co-operation between Viá»t Nam and China for the sake of peace, stability, and co-operation in the East Sea and the region,â the spokeswoman said.Â
A representative of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with a representative of the Chinese Embassy in Viá»t Nam to talk about this issue, Hằng added. â VNS
